Free energy training for North Somerset Council staff and community partners

This winter we will be launching our new thermal camera loan service through North Somerset libraries.

Residents who are library members will be able to borrow one of our new easy-to-use cameras to inspect their home using infrared technology, to find and fix heat loss problem spots – reducing carbon emissions plus saving money on energy bills.

In North Somerset, energy consumption in our homes accounts for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions and reducing energy use is a key component of the council’s commitment to tackle the climate emergency and reach net zero by 2030.

We have organised some training sessions with Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) for library staff, to support them to offer basic energy saving support to residents. These courses are not intended as training for a full energy advice service, but simply to provide the basics and signpost to further assistance.

We are opening these sessions to all staff and community partners in regular contact with residents who may need support with reducing fuel poverty, cutting energy bills, and home improvements to reduce heat loss.

There are two courses available, one is 1.5 hours and online, the other is five hours in person. You do not need to attend both courses.
